Announcement of New President for the Lea Valley Growers’ Association

The members & Executive Committee of the Lea Valley Growers’ Association are pleased to announce the appointment of Jimmy Russo as the Associations next president. Jimmy brings to the position a wealth of knowledge and an array of experiences in the Horticulture industry, on a local, national and international level.

“My roots are in Lea Valley Horticulture being the first British Born child of Italian migrants in the 1950’s. I followed my father into the Glasshouse growing business and have remained for over 40 years. I have admired the work of the Association for many years, so it is an honour to be elected by members to the position of President.”

 

Jimmy is a Director of Valley Grown Salads & Valley Grown Nurseries who won the Horticulture week Salad Grower of the year in 2017. Jimmy was awarded the Italian equivalent of a knighthood (Cavaliere L’Onorificenza) in 2014 for his work helping the Italian community in England. Jimmy has served on the Executive Committee of the Association for the past six years and is a Director of Lea Valley Growers’ Association’ Ltd. Jimmy is a former Chairman of Watford Football club and considers his best encounter with celebrities as having lunch with Elton John at his house and meeting Charlie Chaplin as 16 year old whilst working as a waiter at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Jimmy feels this is a tremendous opportunity to contribute in building the sustainability and growth of the Lea Valley Growers. “My roots are in Lea Valley Horticulture being the British Born child of Italian migrants in the 1950’s. I followed my father into the Glasshouse growing business and have remained for over 40 years. I have admired the work of the Association for many years, so it is an honour to be elected by members to the position of President.”
 

Lee Stiles, Secretary of Lea Valley Growers’ Association, says he and the rest of the Members are delighted to have Jimmy as its next president. “Jimmy’s background in the Lea Valley Horticulture industry, coupled with the respect he receives within the industry will place members in a great position to enjoy continued success as primary salad producers, that the Lea Valley remains the Cucumber Capital of Britain, and is well positioned to take on new opportunities.”

About the Lea Valley Growers Association President

Jimmy Russo is the first President of Sicilian descent in the Associations 112 year history and only the seventh President in this time.
 
Previous Presidents have been from Danish, Irish, Dutch & English descent.
